dr shannon barrett

Dr. Shannon Barrett is a veterinarian, writer, and digital nomad who believes pet health information can be accurate without being painfully boring.

She travels with her husband and Griffin, writing about pet health, pet travel, and the strange things animals convince their humans are perfectly normal.

She provides the veterinary expertise around here.

Griffin provides security.

Kudzu provides commentary.

Everyone has a job.

Griffin

Head of Security • Neighborhood Watch • Unwitting Digital Nomad
Griffin barrett german shepherd dr shannon barrett

Griffin is a German Shepherd who takes Mom and Dad’s safety very seriously. From his command post at the front window, he monitors delivery drivers, neighbors, suspicious felines, and unidentified cardboard packages.

His security record is impeccable. Everyone he has ever barked at has eventually gone away.

Griffin is also technically a digital nomad, although no one has told him. As far as he knows, Mom and Dad simply keep moving his command center from one house to another.

Each move requires a complete security reassessment. New windows must be evaluated. Neighborhood activity must be monitored. Suspicious cats must be identified.

And the sofas are frequently undersized.

When he isn’t protecting Mom and Dad, Griffin enjoys traveling, snuggling, and reminding everyone that personal space is a human invention.

Feline Expert in Boxes, Humans, and Feline Affairs. Official Spokesperson for Cats Everywhere
Kudzu dr shannon barretts cat veterinarian

Kudzu spent his days watching the outside world through windows, where birds flew freely, squirrels wandered unsupervised, and neighborhood cats seemed to enjoy privileges he had repeatedly been denied.

The administration called him an “indoor cat.” Kudzu called it captivity.

Even more troubling was the large shepherd, who was routinely allowed to leave the compound and somehow always returned voluntarily.

Kudzu was part of our family for 18 wonderful years before we had to say goodbye. Today, his stories are inspired by the real Kudzu, my experiences with feline patients, and the universal attitude of cats everywhere.

As a veterinarian, I meet plenty of cats with spicy spirits and lots to say. Kudzu gives them a voice.
